+ + + Border Skirmish with Outlaw Mutants! + + +

The underhive creaks, a stirring of dust trickling through seventeen layers of ancient civilization, abandoned factora, desecrated shrines to petty military-industrial divinities. Soon, this borderzone just past Dust Falls will become a scene of blood and death. For now, a three-spined rat grooms itself under the dust shower...

The cohort of scavvy muties that call themselves the Cult of the Three-Eyed King face down Dust Falls United Metalworkers on a scrappy borderlevel of Hive Primus, as a chance meeting between Herne and the Goliath Shin goes pretty much as you'd expect...

Herne, lit by the glare of some fading Solar-esque™ floodlights

The Cult's holy relic, some ancient fell thing enclosed in plastiglass...

Žuta takes up a position in a broken factorum-shrine window

A Metalworker comes around a piece of machinery, flanking the muties

Herne confronts a member of Dust Falls Metalworkers United at the border pipes between the Cult's Outlander territories and the Workers' protected zone. Negotiations go badly. Good thing both gangs have other members nearby...

Herne rolls to one side, the antlered scavvy surprisingly quick and accurate; his looted laspistol scoring a nasty burn across the Goliath's huge arm. The posthuman makes his own dive behind the pipe marking the borderlands, but his injury makes the return fire ineffective.

Across the rest of the zone, the sound of gunfire echoes, driving off the local fauna (and some flora). Initially, the Goliath attack is effective, and three cultists are taken out, one just as he arrives...

Vincent takes up a covering position with his battered old regimental lasgun.
He gets blasted down from his position by a Goliath stub-cannon
and spends many long minutes bleeding onto rusted steel
The sound of gunfire attracts 'Limber' who limps onto the field -
only to get immediately taken out of action after a burly Goliah bodyslams him

Herne is covered in boils and spines, marks of his corruption visible for all to see

Shop Steward Hannover comes after Herne, swinging a massive powered hammer
Tarn and Žuta dance around each other but the scavvy's reclaimed autogun is ineffective
through the heavy cover of the long-broken equipment

Tiny rounds the corner and slams straight into Žuta.
It ends predictably.
No-Mask cowers behind a bulkhead -
right before stepping out and engulfing Tiny and Tarn in hot, burning promethium

Klon poses with his rivet cannon
Things look dire for the Cult of the Three-Eyed King (vast be the praise for him! caesar of the stars!), as Klon, Union Delegate forgoes his rivet cannon to shove the flamer-wielding No Mask directly into the nearest sump-locker. Shockingly, the former Guardsman's flak armour holds against the brutal Goliath's charge.

Eat fist, nerd!

Solomon the Blemmya and Papa G'noush
The next time-stamp sees Solomon the Blemmya and Papa G'noush finally respond to the racket. Their charge takes out Klon, which is the beginning of the end for the Metalworkers. A unified Cultist push sees them driven off in quick order, taking their wounded with them.

Herne hides behind a broken bulkhead, hoping to lure out the Goliath leader
The Goliath vat-born Metalworkers did well, but the sheer weight of numbers from the Cult meant that they just couldn't make headway. Cult members were able to come on en masse and defend their side of the border. While they could do very little against the furnace plate and unnatural resilience of the posthumans, meat has a quality all its own, and the Goliaths simply couldn't carve it.
