+ + Shoot-out near Fungapipe Forest + +

Local Orlock gun-runners the Harrier Bois had a run in with abhuman huntpack Undergangan out in the scrap-fields west of Fungapipe Forest.

Scrap-fields. Note the pipe-spawned fungal forest on the skinward side.
Remember Doc Renegade's? "A Renegade Doc at Renegade Prices!"? Well, here's part of him.

It started well for the Orlock gangers, when Slip's heavy stubber burst through a mess of old bulkheads, a stray bullet plinking clean off the helmet of one of the abhuman hunters and knocking him clean out. Their mesh jackets (purchasable from Old One-eyed Olga's™) protected them from the returning fire - the venators were accurate, but their off-worlder tech just couldn't do squat.

Venator captain Ealdræd Dunstansson and the still-conscious Ealhheresson brother, Wynnstan,
hunker behind a bulkhead.

Their squat little legs meaning they couldn't move fast in the rough scrap-fields, the venators mostly hunkered into place, screening themselves with smoke and gas grenades.

Harrier Bois overseer, Carline, shouting orders at his lads.

Eventually, the Orlocks tried to envelop the abhuman hunters, which is where it got sticky - the spacers' natural toughness and entrenchment meant they could withstand the small arms fire, and they started choking out the Orlocks advance team.

Beck tried to jump down, but slipped on a greasy patch of [edited].

One of the Orlocks breaking his arm in a bad fall didn't help...

Clarden boldly tries to take out the venators' captain.
L: Ealdræd crushes the true-human's neck and throws him to the ground.
R: Friedland tries to get a bead on the wounded gunner, Wulfesige Badasson,
as he tries to reload his seismic cannon.
Eadwig Heardsson moves up to support his kin, while Carline tries to outflank the short buggers.
BLAM! Eadwig shoots down Friedland, while Ealdræd engages Carline.

The tough off-worlders proved just as hard to take down in melee. Despite being wounded, the hunters' leader, Ealdræd Dunstansson, managed to bring down the Orlock overseer Carline.*

Carline heroically holds off two abhuman hunters on his own, before getting knocked out by some cheap blow.
Behind the brawlers, Wulfesige's seismic cannon is once again ineffectual against Orlock grit.

The Harrier Bois did hold their own, but the loss of Carline rattled them. A parting shotgun blast laid out the gunner Wulfesige, whose seismic cannon had already caused so much chaos to the scrapfields' structural stability but had failed to even mildly inconvenience the men of iron.

A Beck-eye view of the brawling fighters.
One of the Orlock gangers, wounded by gas and frag grenades, takes cover behind some old barrels.
Crumpled human and abhuman bodies lie among scrap and antique bulkheads.
Undergangan grenadier, Dudda Colasson, hunkers down at the sinkward end of the fields.
With the Orlock leader out and half the dwarves buried under broken plating, both teams legged it.

After his initial lucky shot, the abhumans moved out of Slip's line of sight.
The poor bugger spent most of the rest of the gunfight running around, trying to get a clean shot.

Front, L-R: Wulfesige Badasson, Ealdræd Dunstansson, Eadwig Heardsson.

*Unconfirmed reports claim that Ealdræd's autopistol was loaded with rad-rounds! A dirty trick in this reporter's opinion, even for an ab'y. Unfortunately, our team of intrepid reporters can't get near the scene due to, quote, 'not enough [edited] Second-Best in the office to make me go out there on my own.'
